Wow it’s been a long time since I wrote last. Life has been busy what with work and the Olympics and friends and random other stuff like volunteering at the Vancouver Stargate Convention again which was awesome! And seeing as no one really reads this blog except me I don’t really feel like I have to update very often. Especially now that we are racing towards the long awaited summer here in Vancouver so I’m sure I’ll be on the computer even less.
But today, miracle of miracles I am blogging!
Summer seems to coincide with all my shows ending which is good I guess. More excuse to get outside. Supernatural just finished (WTF?! Is Prophet Chuck god? ). SGU has only 4 more episodes left. Dr Who is still going though so that’s nice. I think the new doctor is fine though I still miss David Tennant. I did just get SGU on DVD though so I won’t go into withdrawal over the summer. I do love it so. Even more since I got to meet David Blue, Elyse Levesque and Brian J. Smith at the convention. Lovely people. Very nice and funny. All the volunteers were lucky to get our pictures taken with pretty much all the actors. And I actually look decent in mine! Though I have the exact same face in all my pictures. I’m calling it my photoface. My photo with Joe Flanigan this year is better than last year as he looks a bit cheerier this year rather than looking kind of ‘wish I was somewhere else’ like last year. Though I think the bottle of scotch might have had something to do with it. I think my favourite is the one with David, Elyse and Brian. They are all so tall compared to me which I said something about when I went to have my picture with them so David and Brian picked me up for the picture. It’s so cute. A few of the actors crouched down a bit for my pictures as I am rather short. Elyse had to crouch down so much. When I went and stood next to her she was all ‘Awww’ and scrunched down so she was closer to my height. The girl has stilts for legs! Even Rachel Luttrell looks tall next to me in the picture and she is a petite little lady. I know as I sat next to her at autographs for a couple of hours. She was so sweet!
I made it my business to spread the SGU love at the con. I was completely stunned when I started watching SGU and went on line to check out the show and discovered the haters. Personally I think it’s a great show and I’m enjoying it very much. Much darker and less campy than SG1 and Atlantis. And this from someone who has watched Stargate since it was a movie with Kurt Russell and James Spader. Now I can understand protesting loudly and continuously about things you don’t like. Things such as genocide or beating baby seals to death or chopping down 10,000 year old trees to make wood chips. What I don’t understand are people who appear to be spending a vast amount of time screeching on and on about how much they dislike SGU. Trolling message boards and posting nasty comments, writing pages and pages justifying their dislike, joining fan pages so they can argue with people. People who watch the show every week, a show they claim to vehemently dislike, just so they can complain about it. Frankly all I have to say is GET OVER IT! Move On! You are a No Life Loser! Yes I’m being harsh but seriously people! If this is what you are doing with your life then I think you have bigger issues. It’s a tv show. Not the end of the world. It’s a form of entertainment. The solution is simple - If you don’t like it, Don’t Watch It. If it doesn’t entertain you then watch something that does. I don’t think it’s possible to be more clear. I myself have many shows that I dislike. I can’t stand reality tv. I think Big Brother is foul. I watched an episode of that Charlie Sheen show - 2 and a Half Men - and wanted to scratch my eyes out. Therefore I do not watch these things. Aside from right at this moment I do not normally talk about them, think about them or write about them. I have better things to do with my time.
And that is all I have to say about that. Rant over.
On a positive note I had a pretty amazing time during the Olympics. I was working downtown during the games and it was definitely an experience! Even though I’m not Canadian I got myself a Canada shirt and now know the words to the anthem and everything! I went to visit the Mint and hold the medals. The atmosphere downtown for the games was just incredible. I wasn’t able to go see anything the sporting events during the Olympics. Now I wish I had made more of an effort. But I did go and see the wheelchair curling during the Paralympics which was pretty fun. Especially towards the end when it was a tie between the USA and GB and they had to go into another end (?). Who would have thought wheelchair curling would be so suspenseful? For the Canada – USA Men’s Hockey game my friend and I went to a pub in Surrey and had lunch and watched the game. It was crazy at the end when the USA scored. Everyone was screaming ‘Nooooooo!’. But then they won and it was like the country just exploded! We made our way downtown to take in the craziness! It took half an hour to make our way from the Granville St Skytrain station over to Robson as there was so many people. Then we managed to get into the Chapters store and watched the crowd from up on the third floor. It was just incredible.
And I think that is more than enough for now. I don’t write for months and then suddenly turn up with two pages of waffle! Oh well. But before I go. If you live in Vancouver. Make sure to check out the summer farmers markets here in Van - http://www.eatlocal.org/ . Love It!
