1 - 8 Welcomed in the New Year at the Polar Bear Swim at English Bay in Downtown Vancouver where many hardier people than myself stripped off to shorts, bikinis and underwear to plunge themselves into the icy water. Then they came dashing screaming out to the even more freezing temperatures of gusty winds and snow on the sand. Fun to watch. Not for a million dollars would I do it. Well maybe a million. As long as someone was standing by to warm me up again!
9 - My dinner of homemade butternut squash, onion, garlic and spinach soup. Mmmm tasty! Not only have a I joined the gym and started working out I'm also eating super healthy.... mostly. Got to chuck a chocolate in there every now and then!
Another snowy blustery weekend. At first the snow was a novelty and enjoyable but now I just want it to go away. I never thought I would actually be wanting it to rain! I know now I could never live somewhere like Toronto. How do they deal with this for months on end? I love Australia. No snow. Nice weather for most of the year. Hot, sunshiney summer. I'll never complain about the heat again! Well I probably will. But then I will remember winter in Canada and waistdeep snow as shown in A Year in Vancouver - December 2008!
1 - 3 Vancouver Christmas Parade
4 Snowboards at Grouse Mountain
5 View of Downtown Vancouver from Lonsdale Quay
6 - 9 Capilano Canyon Christmas Lights
10 - 12 Too much snow in Vancouver
13 - 14 Pretty views of the snowcapped mountains from the Seabus
So I was sitting here thinking about what to write today and also reading the newspaper - 'cos that's pretty much what I do at work - when I read an article about a couple of American women who created a book from an idea that started on their websites where they took morning photographs for a year. The book is called A Year of Mornings. I thought it was a beautiful idea.
I'm not much of a morning person and usually barely have time to eat breakfast after getting up at 6.15am and dragging myself around the house in a state of semi-catatonia getting dressed and chucking together a random lunch before braving the cold and dark and slush to get to work. So I thought, Vancouver is a lovely city. Very photogenic and I love to take pictures even if I am fairly amateur about it. So for the next 12 months my blog will be home to A Year in Vancouver. Starting with October.
