Whitehorse is a lot prettier than I thought it would be. And a lot hotter! It's been in the high 30s everyday. Not a cloud in the sky. The bus ride up was pretty arduous. Nearly 48 hours. But I survived somehow. Arrived at 3.30am on Wednesday morning. Sat in Tim Hortons until about 8am and then went down and checked into the hostel. It was so wonderful to shower and change my clothes. Thought about having a bit of a sleep but ended up just going out and going for a nice walk along the river. It looked so cool and inviting in the heat. All lovely and clear and clean water. But the current moves along like crazy. It's a fast speeding river. Checked out the spot where they have the fish ladder for the spawning salmon. Hung out in the park and read my crappy romance novel. The one that I found on the skytrain one day. It was about some poor woman who ends up as a housekeeper for a rich jackass, gets totally sexually harrassed by him and ends up marrying him. Bunch of crap really. Today I saw this log cabin type church built by some priest whose claim to fame is that he got lost in the Yukon at some point and had to eat his shoes. He did other stuff too but that was the story that stuck in my mind. Got some free BBQ for lunch and got some fireweed jelly at the farmers market. Off to Anchorage tomorrow. Happily it isn't 36C there!
