It's odd how much hotter a temperature that at home would be mild feels here in Vancouver. It's only 25C today apparently but it feels like 35C! Yesterday I took a stroll around the seawall and today my reward is a bright red arm and chest. Luckily there doesn't appear to be any peeling or grossness involved. I think it's just going to fade away. I hope.
My trip to the US of A was pretty cool. I've decided that my favourite place was Flagstaff in Arizona. Got to go and see the Grand Canyon which was just....WOW! Definitely Grand with a capital G. Plus it was a cute small town without being rednecky, lots of trees and sunshine and I wasn't harassed for money once. Every other city in the US that I visited I was harassed by homeless people. Bloody sick of it I can tell you. Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, LA, San Diego. All chock full of homeless people begging for spare change and shouting at you when you ignore them or say no. Vancouver has a lot of homeless but at least they are polite. Not shouty and sweary. And they seem to be vanishing because I can walk around town these days and not be bothered once. Everyplace in the US it was like open season on me. Like I was walking around with a giant neon sign saying 'Yes I'm cashed up! Come and shout at me!'. I was surprised that there wasn't beggars in Vegas but I think that's because I was only on the strip. I guess the casinos have security that keeps the homeless and panhandlers away from the
tourists. Las Vegas and LA. Two of the weirdest places I've ever been. And I've been to random countries like Albania, Macedonia and Croatia. Now just hanging out and waiting to be employed again. I think I might have to be a bit more proactive if I don't hear anything this week. Maybe go approach another university. It's nice to be on vacation when the weather is so beautiful but I don't need to be on holiday now. I need to be on holiday in August so I can go to Alaska. In the mean time though I'll just hang out and indulge in my latest obsession - The Dresden Files books. They are pretty fun. Harry Potter if he was a grown up, angry guy from Chicago with a penchant for black coats and big sticks.
